Tech Giants Commit to Shared AI Safety Research Consortium
Five major technology companies have announced a jointly funded research body focused on evaluating and mitigating risks from advanced AI systems.
Five of the world's largest technology companies have announced the formation of a jointly funded AI safety research consortium with an initial five-year budget of $2 billion, aimed at developing shared evaluation methodologies, red-teaming standards, and risk mitigation frameworks for advanced AI systems.
The consortium will operate as an independent non-profit with a governance structure designed to prevent any single member from controlling research directions or publication decisions, a feature intended to address concerns about credibility given the commercial interests of the founding members.
Academic institutions, national governments, and civil society organisations have been invited to participate in an advisory capacity, with formal partnership agreements expected to be finalised within the next quarter.
