City Council Approves Landmark Housing Development
A mixed-use project providing 1,200 affordable units cleared its final planning hurdle after three years of negotiations.
The city council voted 9–4 on Wednesday to approve a landmark mixed-use development that will deliver 1,200 affordable housing units alongside retail space and a public park on a former industrial site near the city center.
The project, which faced sustained opposition from local residents' groups concerned about traffic and neighbourhood character, was modified several times before securing approval, including a reduction in building height and expanded green space provisions.
Construction is expected to begin in the third quarter of this year, with the first residential units available for occupancy by late 2028.
