Major Automaker Recalls 500,000 Electric Vehicles
A software defect in the battery management system could cause unexpected power loss while driving, the manufacturer has confirmed.
One of the world's largest electric vehicle manufacturers has issued a recall affecting approximately 500,000 cars across 18 markets following the discovery of a software defect in the battery management system that can cause sudden, unexpected power loss at highway speeds.
No injuries have been reported, but the company confirmed it became aware of the issue after receiving 340 customer complaints. The recall will be conducted via an over-the-air software update, with physical inspections required for a subset of earlier production vehicles.
Shares in the company fell 4% on the announcement before partially recovering in afternoon trading.
